What is it about Giacomo Puccini’s TURANDOT that has attracted such disparate artists as Carlo Gozzi, Friedrich Schiller, Max Reinhart, Bertolt Brecht, Arturo Toscanini, Anna May Wong, Birgit Nilsson, Franco Corelli and Aretha Franklin? From its Persian source, based on the 13^th century poet Nezami, to its performances in the Forbidden City in Beijing, Michael Hackett will discuss the evolution of Giacomo Puccini’s TURANDOT.
