Seminar: The Barber of Seville
Date: Saturday, October 7, 2023
Time: 12:00PM-2:00PM
Location: Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Fourth Floor
Pre-seminar Reception: 11:30AM
Louis Lohraseb, acclaimed conductor and 2020 graduate of LA Opera's Young Artist program, will discuss the challenges and joys of conducing The Barber of Seville, Italian composer Gioachino Rossini's 1816 masterpiece of the opera buffa genre. Louis will delve into how Rossini was one of those composers who did not write down all the conductor needs to do, because he expected the conductor to add their own "flavor" as part of one's interpretation.
Join your fellow Opera League members and guests for our pre-seminar reception at 11:30AM before Maestro Lohraseb steps up to the mic at noon to show us the Barber life from a conductor's point of view. LA Opera will stage The Barber of Seville from October 21 to November 12.
