Opera’s stylized reality and theatrical grandeur may seem out-of-place in the primitive outposts of the American West. And yet opera and theater thrived in what we may consider to be the most unlikely of places. And it didn’t take long for operatic composers to set libretti in the American West.
Regina Merwin is a board member of the Opera League of Los Angeles as well as a Community Educator speaking on behalf of LA Opera and the League. She has also written articles for the Western States Jewish History Quarterly.
